Mobile payments and guest-intelligence platform Tabbed has joined the Toast Partner Ecosystem, giving Toast-connected restaurants access to Bluetooth-triggered tab management and AI-driven service cues without adding hardware to the table or a new screen to the server's workflow.
The integration is live now and available to any operator running Toast's cloud POS. Guests connect their phones to an open check automatically via Bluetooth, monitor their bill in real time, and close the tab — or simply walk out — on their own device. Split-pay happens in seconds from the guest's phone, removing the math-at-the-table moment that routinely slows turn times during peak service.
The Operator Case
The efficiency argument is concrete. Tabbed's own six-month pilot at a single Atlanta restaurant showed payment-related service time cut by more than nine minutes per table and average tips rising 24.0%. Those numbers carry a caveat — single-location, operator-reported — but the direction aligns with broader industry research showing that reducing checkout friction consistently improves per-cover revenue. For operators managing tight labor budgets, nine recovered minutes per table across a dinner rush compounds quickly into meaningful cover-count gains.
Beyond the payment rail, the deeper sell is the AI layer. Tabbed reads each live check and surfaces contextual suggestions directly on the Toast POS: a wine pairing for the entrees currently on the table, a prompt for a second round before the glasses empty, a dessert recommendation timed to the natural pause in the meal. Guest profiles — dining history, stated preferences, visit frequency, allergy flags — appear the moment a check opens, so servers carry institutional memory they couldn't otherwise hold for a 200-cover book.
"There's a difference between service and hospitality," said Grant Pignio, CEO at Tabbed. "The challenge has always been that even a great server can't remember every guest: what they ordered last time, what they're allergic to, whether it's a special occasion. By integrating with Toast, Tabbed can put that information in front of Toast customers the moment a guest sits down."
Signals for the Broader Market
Tabbed's entry into the Toast Partner Ecosystem — which now includes more than 200 integration partners — signals a maturing category: AI guest intelligence moving from standalone app to embedded POS layer. Operators evaluating their hospitality tech stack should note that the friction point is shifting from payment terminal to data continuity. Tools that can read a live check and act on guest history in real time are the next wave of upsell infrastructure, replacing scripted server prompts with context-aware nudges that feel like genuine recommendation.
The platform also includes a reputation-management loop: guests are invited to share feedback at checkout, with concerns surfaced privately to the operator before they reach public review platforms. For multi-unit groups watching their ratings across Google and Yelp, that closed-loop model is increasingly table stakes in any AI tools evaluation for restaurants.
Tabbed's advisory board includes Paul Brown, Founder and CEO of Inspire Brands, and GJ Hart, CEO of SPB Hospitality. The company is backed by Branded Hospitality, giving it a direct line into multi-concept operator feedback as it scales the Toast integration.
