The Move

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is launching a four-item Bacon Fest lineup on Sept. 2, running through Nov. 3 at participating locations nationwide. The items span savory and sweet: a Smoky Bacon Cheddar Stack (two steakburger patties, four slices of Applewood bacon, sharp cheddar, grilled onions on a King's Hawaiian Bun), a Smoky Bacon Steakburger Taco, Bacon Loaded Tots with cheese sauce and crumbled bacon, and a Maple Pecan Concrete — the brand's frozen custard base blended with maple pancake syrup and pecans, with an optional bacon add-on. All four are available via drive-thru, dine-in, and the Freddy's mobile app.

For operators benchmarking LTO strategy, the architecture here is deliberate: one returning item (the Smoky Bacon Cheddar Stack debuted last summer), two new savory builds, and one dessert with a customizable upsell. That four-SKU structure keeps back-of-house complexity manageable while giving marketing a full campaign canvas across dayparts.

Why Operators Should Care

Freddy's sits at roughly 580 locations across the U.S. and Canada — a scale where systemwide LTO execution is a genuine operational test. At that unit count, a limited-time rollout touches supply chain coordination, franchisee training, and POS configuration simultaneously. The Sept. 2–Nov. 3 window (nine weeks) aligns with the fall traffic-building period before holiday promotions dominate QSR and fast-casual calendars, a timing play more chains are adopting to avoid the noise of Q4.

The bacon-themed cluster also reflects a broader pattern in fast-casual menu development: operators are moving away from single hero items toward themed LTO families that can anchor a promotional season. That approach gives field marketing teams more content to work with across paid social, email, and in-app push — reducing the cost-per-engagement on any individual creative asset. For franchisors managing multi-unit operators, a cohesive flavor theme also simplifies co-op advertising execution.

Procurement and Menu Intelligence

The inclusion of King's Hawaiian Buns as a named ingredient signals an ingredient co-branding approach that operators at scale are increasingly using to communicate quality cues without a menu price increase. Applewood bacon as a descriptor — rather than generic "bacon" — follows the same playbook. For procurement teams, named-ingredient LTOs typically lock in supplier commitments for the campaign window, which can create pricing stability but requires accurate volume forecasting across the franchise system.

Executive Chef and VP of Training & Innovation Rick Petralia noted that the Bacon Fest is designed to "put a fresh spin on signature menu items" while maintaining the brand's core quality standards — a framing that signals the LTO is built on existing prep infrastructure, not net-new equipment or skills. That discipline is worth noting for any operator evaluating whether a themed promotional window is worth the training and supply chain lift.

For vendors and agencies tracking fast-casual, Freddy's ranked No. 6 on Fast Casual's Top 100 Movers + Shakers and No. 85 on Entrepreneur's Franchise 500, making it a benchmark brand for how mid-tier franchises manage seasonal menu strategy and franchise marketing coordination.
